Rittisberg: skiing with children and beginners

Rittisberg is the family ski area in Ramsau am Dachstein. Its main lift is 4.6 km from Waldrand Apartments and combines six-seater chairlifts with ten-person gondola cabins.

According to the lift operator, the area has 11 km of blue, 8 km of red and 1 km of black pistes. Children can start at Kaliland on magic carpets and progress to the Zauberlift, Bergkristalllift and Drachenlifte. The fairy-tale descent has storybook figures along the way. Not every run is a beginner slope, so start in the designated learning areas.

Planning a family ski day on Rittisberg

Choose the teaching area to suit each skier’s ability, rather than simply their age.

  • Kaliland: magic carpets and space to practise stopping and turning, with lessons from Skischule Ramsau.
  • Zauberlift: an easy adventure slope with gentle rollers and a timed slalom.
  • Bergkristalllift and Drachenlifte: practice runs with themed features and children’s activities.
  • Märchenabfahrt (fairy-tale run): a longer descent from the mountain, best checked against the piste map before setting off with young skiers.

Planai, Reiteralm and Hochwurzen: the four-mountain ski circuit

Hauser Kaibling, Planai, Hochwurzen and Reiteralm form one interconnected ski circuit with 123 km of pistes. You can join the network at Reiteralm, Planai or Hochwurzen and ski between mountains. The 222 km quoted for the wider Schladming-Dachstein region are not all linked into this one circuit.

From Vorberg, allow approximately 15 min to the Reiteralm Silver Jet, 16 min to the Planai valley station and 19 min to the Hochwurzen gondola. Your best starting point depends on the runs you want to ski that day.

Ski amadé passes: what do they cover?

Rittisberg and the four-mountain circuit belong to Ski amadé, a wider lift-pass network with 760 km of pistes and 270 lifts across five regions. These figures apply to the entire network, not to Ramsau alone.

Standard multi-day Ski amadé passes cover the whole network. A regular one-day pass is regional; for Ramsau and the four-mountain circuit this is the Schladming-Dachstein region. Check the specific ticket conditions before paying, particularly for special offers.

Getting to the slopes by ski bus or car

The nearest recorded bus stop is Ramsau Vorberg Wegkreuz, 760 m from the house, approximately 10 min on foot. Check the timetable for your travel day: a direct ski bus connection from this particular stop has not been confirmed.

The Rittisberg operator states that RVB ski buses are free with a valid ski pass, except for groups and school groups. However, the ski bus timetable currently published by Rittisberg is for 2025/26. Check the routes, stops and timetable for winter 2026/27 before relying on a bus connection.

Dachstein Glacier: touring and freeriding rather than piste skiing

The Dachstein Glacier cable car valley station is 11 km from the apartments, around 18 min by car. Winter activities there focus on ski touring, freeriding and cross-country skiing. For a conventional day on groomed downhill runs, choose Rittisberg or the four-mountain circuit instead.

For winter 2026/27 the operator lists daily cable car operation from 25 December 2026 to 11 January 2027, followed by Wednesday-to-Monday operation from 12 January to 29 March 2027, with Tuesdays closed. Operations remain weather-dependent. Freeride routes call for avalanche checks, proper equipment and relevant mountain experience.

Add a cross-country day to your ski holiday

For a day away from the ski lifts, a cross-country trail runs about 30 m from the entrance, across the meadow in front of the building. Whether that section has been groomed depends on snow cover and the current trail report.

Our dedicated cross-country guide covers local loops, classic and skating tracks, trail passes, lessons and equipment hire. When conditions allow, you can start this part of your winter holiday without driving to a trailhead.

The Ramsau WinterCard is not the summer guest card

The Schladming-Dachstein Card is for summer stays, not winter ski holidays. The separate Ramsau WinterCard offers discounts on RVB buses, cross-country trail passes and the Dachstein Bad, among other benefits. It is not a downhill ski pass. The documented discounts relate to 2025/26; check the conditions for winter 2026/27.
